Leona Valley, CA

Leona Valley runs west of Palmdale as a narrow rural canyon, and it is best known locally for its cherry orchards. It is higher, greener and considerably quieter than the valley floor, and the properties are large and spread along the road rather than gathered into streets.

Country property, country maintenance

Homes here tend to sit on real acreage, often custom built rather than tract built, and often added to over the years. That produces the maintenance list of a country property rather than a suburban one: fencing and gates, exterior timber, decking, outbuildings, and the parts of a house that are exposed on all four sides because there is no neighbouring wall anywhere near them.

Being surrounded by open ground rather than other houses also means more weather reaches the building. Exterior paint and anything that seals a gap works harder here.

Keeping the outside in order

This is fire country, and the ground around a house is not a decorative question. Keeping the exterior maintained, the timber sound, the gaps sealed and the immediate surroundings clear is ordinary upkeep here in a way it is not down on the flat.
