Sun Village, CA

Sun Village sits east of Palmdale, in the transition between the built up edge of town and the open country beyond it. That in between position is the most useful thing to know about it, because the housing is not one type: some of it belongs to the town behind it and some of it belongs to the rural land in front.

Two kinds of property, one town

On the closer streets a job looks much like a job in Palmdale: a house on a normal lot, town services, the usual list. Further out the parcels open up, the buildings spread, and the work starts to include the things that come with land rather than with a house.

It is worth saying which you have when you call, because it changes what we bring. A morning of interior fixture work and a morning of gates, fencing and outbuilding repairs are not the same visit.

Older stock, straightforward work

A good deal of the housing here has been standing a while and has been added to over the years, which tends to mean honest, plain construction and repairs that are more about wear than about anything clever. Doors that have dropped, hardware that has worn out, drywall that has taken a knock, paint that has had its time in the sun. None of it is complicated. It just needs doing, and it is exactly the sort of list that never quite justifies its own visit until it is written down in one place.
